I get the blues during the winter. Most years get pretty bad by Christmas and then I have several months until it warms up. I love the fall. There is no doubt about that, but I always have the underlying knowledge that I will be getting depressed soon and that the cold will leave me stranded indoors for a few months. My defense? It has always been to try a new hobby, a new adventure. I travel or learn a new craft. One winter I worked on making some amazing Chinese foods and even had friends over for Chinese New Year. I vowed one year to learn how to play and watch football. (I didn't make it past the first game. As I said, I would try new things!) I did yoga one year and have been doing it since. I knitted a lot in 2006. This year, I want to learn how to bake bread. Not banana bread or biscuits - I have been baking since college. I wanted to learn a new craft. The artisan bread - a la sourdough and rustic breads!
I have attempted two loaves - two loaves of challah bread. The Jewish holiday egg bread. I made a loaf of regular challah bread and today I made a honey apple sweetened challah bread. It's yummy. Here's a pic of the honey challah.

yum! that looks great! Will you be sharing some of your favorite recipes? I was thinking about learning how to make my own bread this winter too
I make challah often, Mr M is jewish. Mine is delish but apparently not quite jewish, something about lacking the thousands of years of suffering! I haven't tried rustic breads, you'll have to share your experience.
